As the weather perpetually refuses to align with the date, I am focusing my attention on what is to come. Last week I received my yearly Ravinia Festival calendar and events magazine and I couldn’t be more excited to start planning trips to my favorite venue for long awaited summer nights.
If you are interested in moving to Chicago’s North Shore, you should know that Ravinia Festival in Highland Park is one if its absolute gems. Not much of a best kept secret, the nonprofit music venue hosts over 100 events per summer and consistently works on music education initiatives year round.
As a resident of Highland Park, I take full advantage of Ravinia Festival. With access to the park from the Metra, getting to and from is safe and very convenient. I enjoy the pavilion seating, especially attending concerts of my favorite artists, but more often than not, I enjoy the lawn seating with friends and family. Ravinia offers a host of restaurants and dining options throughout the park, but guests are welcome to bring their own picnic items, including food and beverage without restriction.
You can always tell the Ravinia veterans are waiting at the gates with their picnic materials all neatly organized and coolers full. Blankets and lawn chairs are necessary, and of course bug repellant candles. Added bonus if you have a picnic table – some people go all-out and their setups always impress me.
This summer, I am most looking forward to James Taylor, The Beach Boys and the first ever, Food Network in Concert event taking place in September. For more information about Ravinia Festival and this season’s schedule, visit their website here: Ravinia Festival
